Road House is one of the greatest films in the last 20 years. Today my blog is in tribute to Patrick Swayze.
He’s just so damn good as Daulton.

A friend has been running this trivia site based on a still from a movie. It’s a pretty fun and pretty difficult as well. I’ve been having fun with this so far. As a self proclaimed cinephile…you should check it out.

This past Friday, was Friday the thirteenth, although I spent the night in Vermont, it didn’t keep me away from what was a hilarious adventure over the weekend. I enjoyed a day or two in the Green Mountain State.
What was really interesting was the amusing people that I encountered at the Weathervane, a popular Brattleboro, VT music hall.
What was most interesting, sorry to anyone whom might have been there, and is currently reading this, but the booth that I sit in here, rotates 360 degrees. So Amy and I spent the night at this fine establishment, spinning around in front of the window. I’d certainly like to spend some more time now that I have a better idea of what is there.
When I arrived at home, I knew I would be called out at one point by a reader for not updating my blog here. So, as far as that goes, I’m going to go double platinum today and finish with my experience with the slasher / horror feature remake of Friday the 13th!
The days adventure involved visiting the theaters to see the remake to the Friday the 13th series. I couldn’t help but think of the possibility of this movie sucking the house.
Going into such a venue, one must realize the movie in question is that of a remake, so to leave your expectations at home is probably the best idea you can have. I’ve started to really enjoy horror because in actuality, its so comical; so I knew I was in for it with a remake on this series.
The movie starts with some of the early Jason mythology, so you can get an understanding of how it all started, ie Mrs. Voorhies, how he gets the mask etc etc; and quickly moves through a simple plot line: kids enter woods, Jason massacres, never return. Girls brother comes looking, meets up with more kids, lots of people die. I don’t want to ruin it too much, but you get the gist.
Enjoyable as it was, there were a few things that put me off. For one there was not enough of the creepy music that lead up to kills, it was more of a, isolate one person, pop up behind them, hack slash & repeat. My other annoyance, as with any horror film, the participants are so pathetic, they can’t run, think, trick or any of the like.
As with many movies, anything that is unrealistic in general, a suspension of disbelief is needed. Once you seperate from that, it really is a fun horror thriller with the established story that you love.
I had a good time.
I love that Oliver Stone is trying to get this out before January. This actually looks like it could be really interesting.
Chronicling his life in a movie seems like a great idea, and certainly releasing it at the end of his tenure as our president is a powerful marketing ploy.

Canned burgers aside it’s been a slow time in history, as far as the blogosphere goes, but the show must go on. This past weekend I received a wonderful gift, it was an dvd copy of Rambo IV; and let me tell you, it was nothing short of amazing. So I took it upon myself to find out who the man behind the HGH is. Without further ado, my John Rambo interview.
JAV: So, Rambo, if that is your real name, what convinced you to make a fourth film on a trilogy that was already so successful, and so old?
Rambo: I’d have to say, that if you are pushed this far, shooting film, is as easy as breathing. It was an important move artistically to have made this movie, as a final chapter to a gritty story.
JAV: You were breathing heavily after taking down so many jungle guerillas. But let me ask you, is being a sixty-five year old war veteran, taking a toll on your mind and your body?
Rambo: Really when it comes down to it, they all drew first blood. It takes a bit away from me psychologically, of course, if you hadn’t noticed, I barely spoke a line in my latest movie, which is available on Blu-Ray DVD…and well, we all know I’ve been using some form of muscular enhancing drugs, but who doesn’t these days?
JAV: So in your latest installment, you upped the ante, killing 83 individuals, beating out Rambo III by 5 kills, how do you explain mowing down jungle guerrillas to impressionable youth?
Rambo: Last I checked impressionable youth aren’t allowed in rated R films. Either way, they can think what they like, I’m just trying to teach them the difference between good and evil, and about the amazing power of a truck mounted .50 cal machine gun, or is it a tree clearer?
JAV: Honestly, I’ve been a fan of the series for a long time, and in my opinion this film was long overdue, it’s a wonderfully artistic, gritty piece of cinema, that really crawls inside your head and reveals what even one man can do with 12 years of combat training, massive weapons, and a huge napoleon complex.
