Heath Ledger dies, Best Buy Cashes in?
Posted by Kyle in Reactions on 01 24th, 2008| | 1 Comment »

Now I’m not really the type to gob over the death of a celebrity, although I did enjoy Lords of Dogtown and the New Batman looks pretty wild, but I’d certainly never stoop as low as to use it as promotion to sell DVDs. It’s sad to see that a young actor died, but it’s almost as sickening to see a huge corporation taking advantage of such a tragedy.

I got tagged.

Punkystyle tagged me, so i’m under some kind of obligation to fill in the lines, and fill in for my readers the incredible background on my half normal life.

What’s the story behind the name of your blog and your nickname?
My nickname was something I penned based on my inability to draw straight lines, when I was in art classes (secondary and uni) I always had trouble keeping a steady hand, so my lines had become quite jaggie…. thus jaggedlines. The name of the blog is just a play on words, rather than advice, we’re adding vice. You get the point, it’s really not that awe inspiring.

Why did you started blogging in the first place?
I was jealous that my girl was doing it, so I wanted to one up her, unsuccessfully, I run this website for fun now. It’s basically a portal into my genius.

What has been your best blogging experience? What about the worst?
My best blogging experience probably had to be when Gregg O’Connell interviewed me. It was the highlight of my career, and maybe you could say that is a low light as well. Two birds, one stone. Thanks gregg.

What do you think will happen to your blog in 2008?
I’m planning on writing a novella, probably about the misadventures of a 20 something who has a blog that doesn’t really mean anything. I’m hoping to get it into the New Yorker. Everyone’s got to have goals right?

Rock Songs
Posted by Kyle in Music, Random, Reactions on 01 11th, 2008| | 2 Comments »

Quick post before I head out to Florida, thought I would post an interesting thought.

This post is dedicated to ideas for rock songs that have no place in rock and roll. I was thinking that rock and roll seems to fit a mold as far as the ideas and (im)morals they sing about. Like such things as strippers, hookers, blow, drinking and hating your parents. But where are the rock songs concerning such topics as:

  1. I just bought my first minivan
  2. I don’t hate my parents
  3. I’m afraid to take prescription pills
  4. How strippers are unattractive because they are empty inside
  5. Drinking and doing drugs is a one way road to nowhere
  6. If it’s too loud, turn it down

Any other suggestions?

It’s Always Sunny, in my Heart
Posted by Kyle in Random on 01 5th, 2008| | 2 Comments »

I originally got into the show while on the beta version of hulu which is going to be my favorite place to waste my time.  I had heard such good things, but I’m not really a ‘watch tv’ kind of guy (unless it’s on discovery) so tv to dvd really works well for me.
So, a good friend allowed me to borrow this wonderful dvd set, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. If you haven’t gotten a chance to watch the show, well, you’ve missed out and you should just spend the money and buy the first seasons, but here’s a quick video of the funniest moments of season 1.

Everybody’s doing it…

As the new year has come, I decided that I would follow along with the program and do my bests and worsts of the year.

Best Television Show of the Year:

Californication – Showtime’s somewhat controversial televisions how about a writer who takes his work to Los Angeles only to find that the movie industry ruins his book, and his personal life. This is his quest to correct the wrongs, over-drink, and reveal his promiscuities. One of the funniest shows I’ve watched in a long while, the first season was so good, but don’t watch it with your children, unless you want to have awkward revealing conversations, or have their innocence stolen.

Best Album(s) of 2007

Kings of LeonBecause of the Times – Boy did I ever overplay this album. I can’t even begin to say home many times I listened to the song Fans (68) on this album. I had been a small fan of their other album Youth and Young Manhood, but I really think this album tops it by far. It’s got everything a good rock album should have, it’s catchy, it’s uptempo, downtempo, but what it has that separates it from the bunch is the raw feeling you get, it’s got a great organic feel that doesn’t feel so over-produced. The voice drawls, and the guitars hit on all cylinders. Really good album, beginning to end.

Okkervil RiverThe Stage Names – Not sure if I can state it without appearing to be an Okkervil fanboy, but I really love this album. Lyrically, I think this is one of the most interesting albums to hit 07, and I wonder if there are many better song writers than Okkervil’s Will Sheff. Just go out and buy the album, I can’t say enough how good it really was.

Best Video Game of the Year

2k Games – Bioshock – What a great game this turned out to be. It’s won all kinds of awards for being the best game on the planet and all that. And I totally agree, it is so intriguing, the art direction is perfect, the game is enthralling, and is one of the most engaging game, it will definitely steal twenty hours of your time.
