The White Stripes – Icky Thump
Posted by Kyle in Music on 06 26th, 2007| | 2 Comments »

It’s been a few days or weeks since I last posted, and for good reason. icky thumpFor one, I’m busy with my life (drugs, sex, rock n roll) or its that I’ve been spending an egregious, absurd, and extraordinary amount of time listening to the new White Stripes album, Icky Thump.

It’s been all over the radio, the title track to the album, Icky Thump, gets its fair share of airtime, and for good reason. The White Stripes are one of the more creative, unique and interesting rock bands out there.

This album has blues riffs all over it, and if it is your cup of tea, it is certainly worth a listen. Although some have complained of a lack of talent in pertaining to the drums, this album, I think holds tight enough to really enjoy.

The album starts off with it’s title track which I think is actually one of their weaker songs on the album, but this always risks the possibility of it being over-played, (thanks MTV). A few other songs from this album really stand out, I myself, have really enjoyed the Catch Hell Blues (audio).

From beginning to end, I really enjoy this album, I don’t think I review album’s I don’t, but anyways, if the blues-rock style is what your in to, I think you’ll be more than satisfied with this.

I saw this video, and thought it was the most profound piece I’ve seen in a while.

It’s kind of nerdy, so of course I like it.

Nantucket

I am the Man

So Amy err, Punky, two friends and I spent the past weekend on Nantucket, Massachusetts. Taking the MV Iyanough – the Steamship Authority’s 1 hour catamaran ferry across Nantucket Sound, departing from Hyannis. After our journey, we checked into the Harbor House Village, a really quaint rental lodging in the heart of Nantucket’s downtown. From there we spent the rest of the weekend dining, lounging and shopping.

The hilarity of the weekend was at the chicken box, a popular road house bar outside of the downtown area. This seemed to be the local watering hole for all whom were looking to see the nightlife in Nantucket. It seemed to be an eclectic bunch of people there, including a group of young guys who proved to be the funniest dancers on the planet. Needless to say, the people watching was at its finest at this establishment.

It was certainly an interesting weekend, capped off by a day at the beach, and a long ride on the ferry back to Hyannis. Nantucket is a place steeped in history, and makes for an interesting vacation spot. Mind your wallet, most everything is hugely overpriced. If your wallet is thick enough, it can be a great time.

From complementary services, to hotel pool bars, to frat boys dancing in a chicken box to emulsified limes. Nantucket was quite the interesting time.

Picture Slide Show.
